Cowboys of the Waggoner Ranch, Photography by Jeremy Enlow, Text by Jan Nichols Batts

Waggoner Ranch was established in 1849 by Dan Waggoner.   Today the ranch consists of approximately 535,000 acres and spans across six counties.  It is recognized as the largest ranch in Texas under one fence.  Sadly, this huge piece of Texas history went up for sale two years because of family disputes.  The listing price was $725 million and was recently purchased.  No one knows who the new owners are or what will become of the ranch.  We can only hope it remains as it is for the sake of history and the employees of the ranch.

Jeremy Enlow did a fabulous job documenting the 26 cowboys who work on the ranch to create this over-sized coffee table style book.  It is a wonderful tribute to the cowboys who dedicate their lives to working on Waggoner Ranch.  As soon as my copy of the book arrived in the mail, I was tearing into the box like a little kid on Christmas morning.  I couldn’t wait to check it out.  The photographs will make you feel like you just spent a day on the ranch with the cowboys.  Each vivid photograph pulls you in and tells a story.    There is a lot of interesting facts and history of the ranch from its beginning to present day.   This book would make a great gift for anyone who loves cowboys, cattle or ranch life.
