Review: A Christmas Baby for the Cowboy (The Careys of Cowboy Point Book 5) by Megan Crane

When commitment-allergic Knox Carey discovers an abandoned baby in a snowstorm in the middle of nowhere on a cold December night, he doesn’t think twice. He rescues the tiny girl, and quickly realizes he needs help.

It’s a no-brainer to call Dr. Ramona Taylor—the closest thing to a hospital in Cowboy Point. Sure, they broke up. More than once. And she was clear on what she thought about his emotional constipation, but Knox bets that while she might want to set him on fire—and not in a fun way—the baby will inspire her to keep the lighter fluid at bay.

Not necessarily. Knox ripped out Romona’s heart. It’s as simple as that, but her medical training won’t allow her to do anything but help. Still, seeing the man she once loved enough to dream of forever with a baby in his arms? It kills her. Worse, she’s trapped with him during a raging snow storm living a dream version of the life she knows she can never have.

But it’s Christmas in Cowboy Point—maybe miracles might just happen after all…

My Review:

A sweet second chance.

Knox and Ramona had an on again/off again relationship that had finally come to an end two months prior to Knox finding an abandoned baby on his porch.  The first person he calls is Ramona, because being a doctor, she will know what to do.  Will this baby bring them together or tear them apart for good. I enjoyed seeing how Knox and Ramona worked together taking care of the baby and how it also helps Knox realize what is most important in his life, Ramona.  This book is a great addition to the series.  It is a well-written feel-good kind of story that will stick with you.

Review: A Stroke of Murder (The Shepherd Sisters Mysteries Book 5) by Tracy Gardner

Can Savanna Shepherd discover who’s behind a deadly art heist before her New Year’s Eve wedding?

Savanna Shepherd is wishing for snow. Her Lake Michigan town needs a good cold snap to showcase the winter festival and the sparkling ice-sculpture exhibit she’s curated. Once the weather starts cooperating, she can relax and enjoy the festive season with her loved ones.

But all is not merry and bright in small-town Carson, as chaos puts her holiday cheer on ice. Her ex-boyfriend’s mother is attacked in a robbery at their prestigious art museum, and then the black-tie event at Savanna’s local art museum goes horribly wrong. Thieves have stolen priceless paintings, and many more have been defaced with menacing graffiti. Friends and colleagues become suspects, and the bodies are piling up. Who can she trust?

Now, instead of enjoying the glow of Christmas and preparing to marry the single-dad doctor who holds her heart, Savanna turns amateur sleuth. Can she crack the case before her happily ever after melts away?

My Review:

Interesting, intriguing and unpredictable.

I really liked the previous books in the Shepherd Sisters Mysteries series and this book is a great addition to the series.  I enjoyed returning to the small town of Carson and catching up with the Savanna, Aiden, and her family and friends.  In this book, Savanna is tracking an art theft ring and trying to find out who killed one of her colleagues when the death count starts to rise.  The story is set during Christmas, while Savanna is busy planning the Winter festival and her wedding.  I enjoyed everything about this book and trying to figure out who was behind the crimes.

Review: Bitter Past (Bitter Root Mysteries Book 5) By C.J. Carmichael

A missing woman. A small-town sheriff. A cold case no one wants solved.

Twenty years ago, a young hiker vanished in the Montana wilderness. No body. No suspects. No answers. New sheriff Zak Waller has always believed it was murder—now, he finally has the power to prove it. But without evidence, he’s chasing a ghost.

Then, a new death shakes Lost Trail, drawing investigative journalist Joelle Medler into town. For years she’s been convinced the missing hiker’s disappearance is part of something bigger. As she and Zak uncover long-buried secrets, someone else is watching—someone who has kept the truth hidden for almost two decades and is willing to kill again to keep it that way.

The deeper they dig, the deadlier the investigation becomes. Can Zak and Joelle expose the past before someone else dies?

My Review:

An intriguing small-town mystery.

This book was exciting from start to finish.  It has a well written and interesting plot.  I enjoyed trying to figure out who the killer was and I was totally wrong every time.  If you like small towns mysteries and strong characters, this book is for you.  It is part pf a series, but you can read it as a stand-alone.
