Review: Rolling Up Revenge (Little Dog Diner Book 9) by Emmie Lyn

Revenge is red.
Berries are blue.
When murder darkens the festival—
Will there be one victim or two?

Misty Harbor’s annual Blueberry Festival kicks off with stacks of syrupy pancakes, crumbly scones, and the rich aroma of blueberry balsamic vinegar. But the celebration curdles when Dani Mackenzie stumbles over a body behind the berry bushes.

The victim is no stranger—and a suspicious splash of vinegar leads Dani and her feisty Jack Russell terrier, Pip, straight to Christy Golden, a vendor and Dani’s own employee. Christy confesses that the dead man had been harassing her at the Little Dog Diner, and now the police are hungry for justice—with Christy as their prime suspect.
Determined to prove her friend isn't the missing ingredient in a revenge plot, Dani starts mixing up theories and sifting through festival goers for clues. With Pip sniffing out details the police overlooked, it’s clear the real killer is still stirring up trouble.

Can Dani unravel the mystery before another victim is buried beneath the blueberries?

My Review:

A great addition to the Little Dog Diner series.

When a vendor at the Misty Harbor Blueberry Festival is murdered, Dani and her friends set out to find the killer.  This book has a lot of twists and turns in this story making it difficult to figure out who the killer was.  I enjoyed this addition to the series and recommend it to anyone looking for an entertaining cozy mystery with a hint of romance.

Review: The Dogwood Days of Summer (The Southern Isles Book 2) by Laurie Beach

Should she choose love or freedom?

After years of committing her life to a man she knew wasn’t right for her, Brooke Warter found the backbone to quit that relationship—and now she’s back in Goose Island, South Carolina, sharing a house with her squabbling parents and kooky grandmother.

On the other hand, she has a job working with her best friend at the local winery, and she has space to figure out what comes next. Brooke just needs to keep moving forward and a solid future will automatically follow.

So when old summer camp friends return to her life, she’s not gung-ho on going backward. Especially since she never really let go of her first love—Nathan Daugherty, whom she met when he showed up to camp with his clothes in a Wal-Mart bag. After all, childhood fantasies don’t always equal good adult choices, and she needs to stop defining herself based on her relationship status.

But what if a second chance with Nate could offer a whole lot more?

My Review:

A beautifully written stunner of a story.

Have you ever read a book that you knew was going to stick with you forever?  This is one of those.  Written so well, that I felt like I knew every character and inch of Goose Island.  The book started out sad with a breakup, but when Brooke moved back home to her family and friends, memories of their summer camp came rushing back.  In those memories came Nate, the first boy Brooke kissed and never forgot.  I enjoyed seeing Brooke and Nate find their way back to each other and Brooke reconnecting with her old friends and even the childhood bully.  There are also a lot of great little stories within this book that added so much more to it.  This is my favorite book, that I have read this year, and I highly recommend it.

Review: Murder on Display (The Shepherd Sisters Mysteries Book 2) by Tracy Gardner

Art in the park leads to murder in the dark, creating another crime for the Shepherd sisters to solve.

Savanna Shepherd, an art expert turned elementary art teacher, is planning the Art in the Park festival for her hometown of Carson, Michigan. But apparently, someone isn’t happy that Carson got to host the tourism boosting event and destroys the beloved statue in the park. Then Savanna discovers a local politician’s dead body following a planning committee meeting, and the festival is at risk of being canceled.

Savanna and her sisters are convinced that the arrested murder suspect, a longtime family friend, didn’t do it, despite strong evidence to the contrary. With the help of Dr. Aidan Gallager, Savanna’s new romantic interest, they uncover plenty of hidden resentments, intrigue, and suspects who had a motive for the murder. Can they find out which one of them is behind the framing of an innocent person before the murderer paints them into a corner?

My Review:

An unpredictable cozy mystery with a hint of romance.

After reading the first book in the Shepherd Sisters Mysteries, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one.  It was just as unpredictable as the first with a lot of possible suspects.  I enjoyed trying to figure out who the killer was.  I also liked catching up with Savannah and her sisters.  The story is well written and kept my interest the entire time.  Each book in this series can be read on its own, but I would recommend reading this series in order to get to know the characters better.
