Review: Danger in the Nevada Desert by Denise N. Wheatley

A killer’s terrorizing River Valley…
And its newest sergeant.

With a serial killer terrorizing her desert town, Sergeant Charlotte Bowman needs the savviest partner she can find—fast! Enter hotshot California detective Miles Love. Together Charlotte and Miles make a formidable team
despite their fiery past. But with the stakes as intense as their chemistry, can the pair outwit a ruthless murderer—who might just have River Valley’s newest sergeant next in his sights?

My Review:

Non-stop action.

Be warned.  You are going to want to read this book in one sitting.  It is one of those books that is hard to put down.  It is full of action and suspense when Sergeant Charlotte Bowman and Detective Mile Love work together hunting down a serial killer on the loose.  Charlotte and Miles have great chemistry and I enjoyed seeing working together on this job and eventually get their happily ever after.

Review: Spring Break Slaying (The Wannabe Sleuth #3) by Jody Holford

What happens on spring break stays on spring break…except murder.

It’s spring break in Rainbow Falls and true crime aficionado Annie Abbott is hoping to cater to the hoards of college kids descending on her coastal town by hosting a Gatsby-themed murder mystery party. She’s hoping her twenties era whodunnit at a local historic mansion will increase tourist revenue and build her business’s brand.

The party is the talk of the town when a despised social media influencer is attacked and left for dead on the estate’s grounds. With the help of her online friends, Annie searches for clues. The list of suspects reads like the town’s social directory—but who benefits most from the victim’s silence?

Annie’s parents are due home from their year-long adventure, so her time in Rainbow Falls is winding down. With a growing suspect list and tension among her friends, Annie worries about her own future. Should she settle in Rainbow Falls? Do she and Ben, her boyfriend and the town vet, have a future? Will she live long enough to find out?

My Review:

An entertaining small town cozy mystery.

If you have read any of the books in the Wannabe Sleuth series, you definitely don’t want to miss this one.  This time Annie and one of her friends are hosting a murder mystery party.  The residents of Rainbow Falls and spring break visitors are all invited.  But it isn’t long before there is a murder and of course Annie is one of the people to discover the victim.  I enjoyed seeing Annie and her friends teaming up once again to solve the mystery.  Sometimes I feel I am getting better at figuring out the killer in most books, but this one stumped me.  It was an exciting read all the way through the book.  And of course, I enjoyed catching up with all of the fun characters in Rainbow Falls.

Review: The Texas Cowboy’s Rescue (Texas Heritage #3) by Debra Holt

This charge nurse and helicopter pilot bring a new twist to flight risk…

Single mom Kenzie Calhoun has returned to Burkitt, Texas, and the Aces High Ranch determined to build a loving home. She has a new position as a nurse on an air medical evac team, a house to remodel, and a whip-smart six-year-old daughter to raise. After a disastrous marriage, the walls around her heart are high. There’s no room for another mistake in the romance department.

Major Deke Hayes takes pride in his air evac helicopter service that assists area ranches, including the Aces High, during roundups and predator removal. In his spare time, he flies emergency calls for the local hospital. But his call sign, Lone Wolf, says it all: his trust issues mean he flies through life solo, too.

That is, until precocious Brooke Calhoun, with a penchant for climbing trees and a fondness for sprinkles on cupcakes, can’t help but bring the two adults together with her antics. Will Kenzie and Deke see that sometimes walls have a way of crumbling in the face of second chances?

My Review:

A great addition to the Texas Heritage series.

I knew this book was going to be good when I picked it up.  I have enjoyed the previous books in the series, so I couldn’t wait to start this one.  I really liked the characters and the author did a great job on their backgrounds and current storyline.  Kenzie works for Deke as an air medical evac nurse and she knows it’s not right to have feelings for her boss.  But she still does.  Deke is also fighting the same feelings for Kenzie.  Because they have both had bad experiences in relationships, they hold back.  It’s Kenzie’s little girl who seems to bring them together.  She was such a fun part of this story.  When it would get a bit serious, Brooke was there to lighten it up some.  I also liked catching up with the characters from the previous books.  Even though this book is part of a series, you could read it as a stand-alone.  But I would recommend starting at the beginning of the series so you really know what’s going on with the other characters that pop up in this book.
